Why did you want to serve on the Board of Directors?
It is my pleasure to represent Duke Energy in the great City of Apopka. Duke Energy is committed to local economic and business development in the communities we serve, therefore involvement with the Apopka Chamber of Commerce is a natural connection and one that give me the opportunity to stay abreast of issues that really matter to Apopka’s business community.
What is your business philosophy?
Margaret Thatcher said it best: “I don’t know anyone who got to the top without hard work. That is the recipe. It will not always get you to the top, but it will get you pretty near.”
What is your proudest achievement?
I have a couple…marrying my husband Alex is my proudest but running the New York Marathon is definitely my second!
What have you found most valuable about your involvement with the Chamber?
The relationships I have cultivated as both a Chamber Member and a Board Member are paramount. I barely knew anyone in Apopka before joining the Chamber five years ago. Now I have a contact list full of names that I can call if I have an issue or a question. The folks I have gotten to know have made my time with the Chamber invaluable.
What do you think makes the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce different from other business organizations?
The sense of community in Apopka is different from other cities. People know one another both professionally and personally. It’s that personal sense of community that makes the Apopka Chamber different from other Chambers of Commerce and business organizations.
What book (or author) has influenced you most in your business career?
