Why did you want to serve on the Board of Directors?
As a member of the Apopka City Council and at the direction of the mayor, the Honorable Joe Kilsheimer, I will serve as a liaison between the City of Apopka and the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce to ensure the utmost cooperation between both entities.
What is your business philosophy?
As related to the City of Apopka, I believe that the private sector and entrepreneurship are vital elements in the continuity of a strong, vibrant, and growing city. A strong and stable supportive relationship between city administrators and the business community is essential in creating an atmosphere that encourages the establishment of new business within the city limits and supports the existing businesses to invest and expand.
What is your proudest acheivement?
As a mother, a wife, a grandmother, and as a law enforcement officer, I’ve had and have shared many proud moments in my life, but one of my proudest achievements was being elected to the Apopka City Council, and having the opportunity to serve as Commissioner of this great and wonderful city. Apopka is a great place to live and a wonderful place to raise a family.
What have you found most valuable about your involvement with the Chamber?
Meeting the Chamber’s board of directors, and especially meeting many of the business owners, has given me the opportunity to assimilate and learn more about Apopka’s business atmosphere. Additionally, visiting established businesses and attending the ribbon cuttings of new and recently renovated established businesses has given me a sense of how these businesses operate. I consider my involvement with the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce to be an essential and important role of my commissionership.
What do you think makes the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce different from other business organizations?
The camaraderie from the members of the chamber impressed me the most. Sharing and promoting new business ideas is a strength that was obvious to me. The members consult with each other and are willing to participate with each other. Their readiness to assist, either financially or with their time, is what makes the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce an example of businesses working together for a common goal.
What book (or author) has influenced you most in your business career?
“The One Minute Manager” by Leonard Kloeber. I enjoyed the goal setting section of the book. It keeps things simple but to the point. I read this book many years ago, but it’s still my favorite.
